BACKGROUND SYSTEM HISTORY

And now a long story about how it all started.

When I started working in the studio, I bought three rolls of seamless background papers as the backgrounds. More backgrounds couldn't fit in my space. Generally, seamless paper solves many problems and is good enough for photo shoots, but not for all types of shootings and my imagination. Often seamless paper gets dirty easily and breaks quickly. It is just pure colours, and that's it. There is no texture, no volume, no design, no perspective. They are not durable or solid, and you can't lean on them like on an ordinary wall.

When new clients appeared, I tried to diversify their portfolios as much as possible. I also wanted the photos in the portfolio to be different from each other. I liked creating new images resembling shooting in some interiors or mysterious places that convey a unique atmosphere. I wanted to visually move the scene to some non-trivial environment, away from studio photo shoots' standard and expected images.

Meanwhile, I started constantly thinking about something that could help me achieve my goals. More clients were coming. They passed recommendations by word of mouth and brought me a good profit with each new day. Over time, I managed to purchase my own space. My Photo studio was five times larger than the one I rented before. But there were still four walls in the photo sessions hall, and I wanted to leave them white and not create their design in different incongruous styles and surfaces.

I wouldn't say I like it when the studio's interior is ridiculous, pressing simultaneously with brick, shabby, glamorous and palace walls on four sides.

I kept thinking about how I could reconstruct my studio space so that there were more than four walls in one room, and it was all beautiful, not intrusive, and convenient to use. I kept dreaming about it, mostly in my sleep, and one night I came up with a straightforward idea.I kept dreaming about it, mostly in my sleep, and one night I came up with a straightforward idea.

I came up with a simple design, similar to a book. It contained ten spreads, that is, 20 backgrounds. The pages were supposed to be easy to move on wheels from the spine. The next day I started the Background construction project, and after a while, my background system was ready. I had to work hard to design those 20 pages (backgrounds).

I ordered gorgeous and exclusive materials and spent some time recreating different ideas and designs for each page. But it was worth it! Since that day, my clients have started to travel from New York to Paris. They were transported from magnificent palaces to picnics with wildflowers without leaving my studio. So, I solved a huge problem, and my photos became much more diverse and attractive.

But we didn't stop there. Having opened a new photo studio in Canada, my sister and I dreamed of somehow upgrading our background system so that, firstly, it would fit better into our new, limited space. And secondly: we wanted to make somehow each of our 20 backgrounds independent of each other. We dreamed of coming up with a solution to make it possible, by moving the backgrounds, to create full-fledged interiors from two or more walls. We were thinking about how to make any angle positions in the shooting possible. We also wanted to make some backgrounds, not standard shapes, such as in the form of doorways or arches. Since various window background shots have become popular, we have dreamed of making an artificial window. It would solve the problem for some studios without daylight. Also, as a photographer, I was always looking for an even more accessible solution for moving and staging studio lights. The fact is that the structure of the "Book" Background system restricts some positions of Lighting stands. And as a result of joint creativity, we found a solution.

We have selected materials to disassemble the structure and reassemble it as a construction kit. The only thing that is finishing materials will have to be applied again after reassembly. But this is not a big problem, since, in fact, with proper operation, you should change the finish of each background about once every few years so that regular customers have different photos from year to year. For example, during my 15 years of work as a studio photographer, I changed the finished design of backgrounds several times. I do this to this day for a diverse, regular renovation of interiors, and all this brings joy to regular customers. Their images differ from year to year. Clients do not have the impression that the portfolio is the same as last year's, and they do not think that there is no point in coming again. On the contrary, they rejoice at how diverse their new portfolio is from year to year and say they want to return to your photo studio again next year.

The next task was to be able to disassemble and assemble the system in case the photo studio moved from one place to another. After all, this happens when the premises owner unexpectedly decides to sell his property and what to do, because each background is about 3 meters long and 2.5 meters high. When moving, you won't cut it to carry it through the door or window. And here, too, we found a solution.
